This one started with a homeowner noticing power problems in the back of their house. Lights acting up, circuits not behaving right. Classic signs that something upstream was wrong. When we opened things up, we found exactly what we suspected - heavy corrosion on the main lugs, bus bar, and breaker terminals. The kind of corrosion that builds up over time and quietly causes problems before eventually failing altogether.
Coastal homes deal with this more than people realize. Salt air is relentless on electrical components, and a meter panel combo that's been sitting outside for years takes a beating. By the time a homeowner notices power issues inside, the damage at the panel can already be pretty significant. That was the case here.
We pulled the old corroded unit and installed a brand new Eaton meter panel combo. Clean connections throughout, solid components, built to last. We also added a whole-home surge protector while we were at it. That's something we recommend on pretty much every panel job - one good power surge can damage appliances, HVAC equipment, and electronics throughout the whole house. The surge protector sits right at the panel and stops that from happening.
The green indicator light on the surge protector tells the homeowner at a glance that everything is working as it should. No guessing, no wondering. That kind of peace of mind matters, especially in a coastal environment where the electrical system takes more abuse than it would inland.
Corrosion-related panel issues don't fix themselves. If your home is showing signs of intermittent power loss or circuits acting up in one part of the house, it's worth having someone take a look at the panel before a nuisance problem turns into a serious one.
