Most homeowners don't think about their electrical panel until something goes wrong. Tripped breakers, flickering lights, or an inspector flagging an outdated panel - that's usually when we get the call. This job was a full outdoor main panel replacement, and it's a good example of what a proper upgrade actually looks like from start to finish.

Here's what was involved. The old panel came out, and we installed a new copper bus bar panel along with a full panel surge protector. Copper bus bars matter because they handle heat better and hold connections more reliably over time than aluminum alternatives. The surge protector is something a lot of homeowners skip - but it covers every circuit in the home from voltage spikes, which can quietly damage appliances and electronics over months or years.

One part of this job that takes coordination is the temporary power drop from Duke Energy. We handle that scheduling so the homeowner doesn't have to chase it down themselves. The power comes down, we do the work, inspection happens, and power goes back on. Start to finish, same day. No overnight without power, no dragging it out across multiple trips.

The finished panel has an emergency disconnect - now a code requirement in many jurisdictions - clearly labeled breakers for the sub-panel, multiple A/C units, and hot water heaters. Everything is organized, accessible, and up to current standards. A surge protector indicator light makes it easy to confirm the protection is active without opening the panel at all. That's the kind of detail that makes a difference years down the road.

Panel work isn't just about keeping the lights on. It's about making sure the system feeding your entire home is safe, code-compliant, and built to last. We take that seriously on every job, whether it's a straightforward swap or something that requires coordination with the utility.
