Your HVAC system is probably the single most expensive piece of equipment in your home. A new system can run anywhere from several thousand to over ten thousand dollars depending on the setup. One power surge - from a lightning strike, a utility grid fluctuation, or even your AC compressor cycling on - can fry the control board and leave you with a very expensive repair or a full replacement.

That's exactly what we addressed on this one. We installed surge protection devices at both the outdoor condenser disconnect and the indoor air handlers. That's the part most people miss. A lot of folks think one surge protector at the panel covers everything, but HVAC equipment needs point-of-use protection right where the power enters the unit. Both locations matter.

The outdoor unit takes a beating from the elements and is especially vulnerable to voltage spikes. The indoor air handler has sensitive electronics that are just as easy to damage. Covering both ends is the right way to do this job - and honestly, the only way we're comfortable doing it.

Each surge protection device we use carries a UL listing, meaning it's been independently tested and certified to do exactly what it claims. The green indicator light you can see on the installed units confirms they're active and working. It's a simple visual check that gives the homeowner peace of mind without needing to call anyone.

This is one of those upgrades that's easy to put off because nothing's gone wrong yet. But surge damage is sudden and it doesn't come with a warning. A relatively small investment in proper surge protection can save you from a very bad day down the road.
