Backstabbed wiring is one of those things that can fly completely under the radar for years. The outlets work, the lights come on, and nothing seems wrong - until a connection starts pulling loose inside the wall. At that point you're dealing with arcing, overheating, or a dead outlet with no obvious cause. That's exactly what we were up against at this Wilmington home.

We replaced every outlet and switch in the house. Not just the ones that were acting up - all of them. When backstabbing is present in one spot, it's usually present throughout. We re-terminated each connection the right way, using the screw terminals, and then tested every single outlet to confirm correct wiring before we left. That last part matters more than people realize. It's easy to make a connection. It's another thing to verify it.

On top of the outlet work, we installed a whole-panel surge protector and a dedicated surge protector for the HVAC system. Power spikes don't announce themselves - they just show up and fry whatever is in their path. Your AC unit, your refrigerator, your TV - all of it is vulnerable without proper protection at the panel level. The whole-panel unit handles surges coming in from the utility side, and the HVAC unit gives the air handler and compressor their own dedicated layer of protection.

The green indicator light on the panel surge protector tells you at a glance that it's doing its job. If it ever needs to be replaced after absorbing a big hit, it lets you know. Simple, reliable, and something most homeowners never think about until it's too late.

If your home has older outlets that have never been replaced - or if you're not sure how they were wired - it's worth having someone take a look. Backstabbed connections are a known issue in homes built during certain eras, and they don't fix themselves.
